Why Train Your Older Dog?

There are a number of reasons why you would want to go through the process of adult dog training and the most obvious one is that it will allow you to control your dog better which can be very helpful in numerous situations, for example, when other animals or even children are around and you want your dog controlled. A dog’s training can teach them to act in the correct way when in these situations.

Also, training your older dog can help the dog to be better behaved. This leads on from what I said in the previous paragraph but really the better the adult dog is trained and in control then the better behaved it will be.

There is a further benefit to adult dog training and that is the improved relationship that you and your adult dog will have. Training a dog and indeed with older dog training can take a fair amount of time and effort and this is all time that you will be spending with him or her. The more time you spend with your dog will really help with bonding with your dog. This can be especially required in the case of adult dog training as it is more than likely that you will not have had the dog since it was young. Therefore, taking the time to train your older dog can have a lasting enefit and a much higher value to you and your new best friend.

Training a dog can often be very frustrating. But if you learn proper techniques and follow a system that works it will not be too long before you have an older dog trained.  Here are a few ideas to help with your dog training.

Basic Training Technique

Most adult dog training techniques involve the gift of a reward for your dog.  For example, here’s a technique for getting your dog to learn to sit.

1) Begin by giving your command clearly to your dog, e.g “Sit”

2) Present the treat to your dog and begin to raise it above his/her head.

3) As your dog raises their head place your hand on its lower back and add gentle pressure directing your dog to lower into a sitting position.

3) Your dog will then sit down and you can now reward the dog with the treat – and of course a lot of love and affection too!

You can learn more about the techniques and tips of dog training from the various pages within this site.  However, I would recommend the ebook because it will bring everything together in a clear and concise way.  This will help you to learn systematically and will cut down the time you need to learn these techniques considerably thus speeding up the time it takes you in your adult dog training.
